De assemblages uit mijn serie ´Showroomdummies´ zijn samengesteld uit toeristische houten beeldjes gevonden in kringloopwinkels. Reflecterend op hun schoonheid en de culturele of religieuze ondertoon, stel ik nieuwe beelden samen met een eigen betekenis en identiteit. Hun beeldtaal is gebaseerd op folkloristisch ambacht, toeristische massaproductie en de modernistische en hedendaagse beeldhouwtradities.
Spelend op de grens tussen het banale en het verhevene, worden antropologische overeenkomsten in volksverhalen gekoppeld aan het westerse denkbeeld van individuele uitmuntendheid als kunstenaar.

The assemblages from my series ´Showroomdummies´ are composed of touristic wooden figurines found in thrift shops. Reflecting on their beauty and the cultural or religious connotations they refer to, I compose new images with their own meaning and identity. Their visual language is based on folkloric craft, touristic mass production and the modernist and contemporary sculptural traditions.
Playing on the border between the banal and the sublime, anthropological similarities in folk tales are linked to the Western idea of ​​individual excellence as an artist.
