De assemblages en bewerkte beelden uit mijn serie Showroomdummies zijn samengesteld uit houten beeldjes gevonden in kringloopwinkels. Reflecterend op hun schoonheid en de culturele of religieuze ondertoon, construeer ik nieuwe beelden met een eigen betekenis en identiteit. De beeldtaal is geworteld in folkloristisch vakmanschap en toeristische massaproductie in dialoog met de modernistische en hedendaagse beeldhouwkunst.
Spelend op de grens tussen het banale en het verhevene, worden antropologische overeenkomsten in volksverhalen en mythologie gekoppeld aan het westerse denkbeeld van individuele uitmuntendheid als kunstenaar.

The assemblages and edited figurines in my series ´Showroomdummies´ are composed of touristic wooden figurines collected from thrift stores. Reflecting on their beauty and the cultural or religious connotations they refer to, I compose new images with their own meaning and identity. Their visual language is rooted in folkloristic craftsmanship and tourist mass production, and places these traditions in dialogue with modernist and contemporary sculptural practices. Operating at the boundary between the banal and the elevated, the works connect anthropological correspondences found in folk narratives and mythology with the Western notion of individual artistic excellence.
